Summary

Jules returns to her hometown to find out the truth about her sisters death。It’s a long convoluted story that intertwines with Nel’s ( the sister) writings of the several women who had drowned in the spot that she herself will fall to。 There are far too many characters in this book and Hawkins probably realised that as she’d written a list of them at the beginning, with a note to how each one fits into the plot。 I found this very useful as I had to keep flipping back to the list to remind myself Jules returns to her hometown to find out the truth about her sisters death。It’s a long convoluted story that intertwines with Nel’s ( the sister) writings of the several women who had drowned in the spot that she herself will fall to。 There are far too many characters in this book and Hawkins probably realised that as she’d written a list of them at the beginning, with a note to how each one fits into the plot。 I found this very useful as I had to keep flipping back to the list to remind myself who they were。It was doubly frustrating as I’d read this book before but it hadn’t roused my interest enough to remember how it ended。It’s ok, but loads cut have been cut out to make it more interesting 。。。more

This book has a vast cast of characters。 The story is centered a small town where a river is the home of the Drowning Pool, a body of water known for several deaths throughout history。 The book starts with the death of a single mother who leaves behind a teenage daughter。 As the circumstances of her death and the death of teenage girl months earlier come to light, several lives become more entangled。This didn't feel too suspenseful or too mysterious。 There are so many perspectives that it was di This book has a vast cast of characters。 The story is centered a small town where a river is the home of the Drowning Pool, a body of water known for several deaths throughout history。 The book starts with the death of a single mother who leaves behind a teenage daughter。 As the circumstances of her death and the death of teenage girl months earlier come to light, several lives become more entangled。This didn't feel too suspenseful or too mysterious。 There are so many perspectives that it was difficult to feel the tension。 Additionally, all the characters were kind of terrible。 Each person had their own issues, but it was a lot to get all of these characters in one book。 There were a few people that were particularly nasty。1。5/5 - distracting cast of unlikeable people 。。。more

I loved this book! Based on the reviews I have read, I think many readers have missed the main point。 To me, this story is a commentary on sexism。 Each character embodies a different manifestation of misogyny。 We have themes of body-shaming, sexual assault, competition between women, violence against women, statutory rape, and more。 This novel did a fantastic job of exploiting all of these issues and showing not only how awful they are, but just how prevalent they still are in our society。

This book was okay。 The book goes back and forth from about 10 different character perspectives as well as written flashback/stories from the previous suicide/ or murdered victims。 This makes following whose who a bit challenging apart from the more primary characters。 Once you get into the book you can piece together whose who more easily。 You follow the drowning victims sister, who returns to her town where she grew up and tried to escape, there is an estranged relationship between Nel (the la This book was okay。 The book goes back and forth from about 10 different character perspectives as well as written flashback/stories from the previous suicide/ or murdered victims。 This makes following whose who a bit challenging apart from the more primary characters。 Once you get into the book you can piece together whose who more easily。 You follow the drowning victims sister, who returns to her town where she grew up and tried to escape, there is an estranged relationship between Nel (the lady who drowned) and her sister Jules。 This is where the story begins per se with Jules, but from the there it unravels into the different perspectives。Personally I found the drowning obsession a bit unrealistic, but that's just me, it was entertaining enough。 。。。more

Totally engrossing read。 I was a bit surprised at some of the reviews--the main criticism being the number of POV's。 That is what I found most engaging。 The book really is nothing like The Girl on the Train。 Believe it or not, I had a difficult time following that plot and character arc。 I do agree that the writer's approach for Into the Water is not for everyone。 Totally engrossing read。 I was a bit surprised at some of the reviews--the main criticism being the number of POV's。 That is what I found most engaging。 The book really is nothing like The Girl on the Train。 Believe it or not, I had a difficult time following that plot and character arc。 I do agree that the writer's approach for Into the Water is not for everyone。 。。。more

SuspensefulOverall a pretty good read, suspenseful at times。 The p!ot of the story was good and I finished this book in a weekend。

Too much going on。 I liked the ending, that’s it。

Another good novel from Paula Hawkins。 I loved the twists and turns。 It wasn't until the very last page that it all came together。 I also really like the psychological depths Hawkins goes to in her novels。 They aren't just "who dun it" stories; they are stories that delve into what makes each of the characters tick and the history that makes them who they are。 Another good novel from Paula Hawkins。 I loved the twists and turns。 It wasn't until the very last page that it all came together。 I also really like the psychological depths Hawkins goes to in her novels。 They aren't just "who dun it" stories; they are stories that delve into what makes each of the characters tick and the history that makes them who they are。 。。。more

I think I was expecting too much from this book。 It followed The Girl on the Train。 The suspense was not as tense and I did not feel the same connection with these characters。 I liked Rachel and the other women from The Girl and their brokenness, however I did not like or relate to any of these characters。 I think it was more depressing than redeeming。

Connor Findlay-Priest

I enjoyed getting to peak inside the minds of all of the characters and that this introspection featured heavily throughout the plot development。 Due to short chapters and vast amount of characters it does take a while to get to grips with and I found myself re-reading sections until I got to know some of the minor characters a bit better。Overall I enjoyed the read and would recommend

I have read this book slowly not because it’s boring, but it’s deeper than I thought。 Completely different from “ the girl on the train “ which was my the first book I read to her, this book’s plot is really twisted。 I don’t know what I think of this book as a whole, but is worth to read。

So torn about this book, I can’t even describe… something like a Gauss curve… took me some good chapters to understand who the charachters are - really slow build-up…took me some chapters in the middle to understand the plot - this was the highlight of this book… and came down the curve when some secondary plots got lost into the water, some were diluted and the main plot was just there in plain sight。 I do believe that this book had all that it needed, but didn’t ecplore all that it could…

This book definitely was not as good as Girl on The Train - reason being (as already mentioned by other reviewers) it that it has too many characters which makes it a challenge to follow。Then at the end it appears rushed and there are so many characters to choose from regarding the murderer。 To be honest I thought the ending was a bit abrupt - it's almost like she didn't decide until right at the end who done it。。。。!

AAARRRGGHHH! If I ever pick up another Paula Hawkins book, please call the sheriff to take me to the hoosegow。 I hated The Girl on the Train, so why did I pick this one up? I blame my spouse。 Only after two weeks of struggle, and not even half way thru, did she tell me to skip to Part 4 where the final six or so chapters wrapped up some of the dog's breakfast。 But not all。Why are the seemingly fifty characters here? Why is the presence of several so totally unexplained and absolutely superfluous AAARRRGGHHH! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Another book full of plot twist, more too it vibes。 I felt for some of these characters, but his book is true overall。 It happens in real life, that one quote that says "where trouble women go to die", yea that I felt that。 Whenever men doesn't want to deal w a female, when they want to silence or push us to a corner so that we won't expose true colors, men find a way to deal w the problem (women)。 Another book full of plot twist, more too it vibes。 I felt for some of these characters, but his book is true overall。 It happens in real life, that one quote that says "where trouble women go to die", yea that I felt that。 Whenever men doesn't want to deal w a female, when they want to silence or push us to a corner so that we won't expose true colors, men find a way to deal w the problem (women)。 。。。more
